TSUMUZI（ツムジ）
作曲家・バイオリニスト
“５拍子の貴公子” “変拍子の貴公子” との呼び名で親しまれている日本の作曲家 / バイオリニスト。
音楽家でありながら都内の国立医大を卒業、ドクターライセンスを持つという異色のキャリアを有し、音楽的感性と知性を併せ持つ理系アーティストとして注目されている。
3歳でバイオリン、4歳でピアノを始め、16歳の頃から作詞・作曲活動にのめり込む。大学進学を機に上京し20歳の頃よりバイオリンを用いてクラシックにこだわらない独自の音楽スタイルでの活動を開始。20代半ばに作曲した変拍子のオリジナル曲「Devilish Waltz of A Soul」をきっかけに変拍子という未開拓の領域を切り拓く先駆者としての道を歩み始める。
大学卒業後、医師国家試験に合格しドクターライセンスを取得するも音楽活動に専念することを選んだ。
2013年、ファーストアルバム「Devilish Waltz of A Soul 〜 二月二十六日のタンゴ」で全国デビュー。
世界的に珍しい ‘５拍子’ ‘変拍子’に特化した音楽性が国内外で注目を集め、3rd アルバム収録の『俺のリベルタンゴ』のミュージックビデオが定期的にヨーロッパ、アジア、南米のジャズチャート1位を獲得するようになったのをきっかけに海外にも進出。
初の海外公演となったスペインでのコンサートでは、長年探求してきた5拍子とフラメンコとの親和性に着目したサウンドが絶賛され世界に通用する5拍子、変拍子の第一人者としての評価を確立した。
2025年4月にはイラン文化庁の招聘によりイランを訪問。イスファハン、ヴァルザネ、シラーズ、テヘランの4都市を歴訪し各地で3つの映像作品を撮影。またテヘランでは在テヘラン日本大使館にて現地の音楽家との共演コンサートを行った。
国内では2021年に岐阜県関市の人気観光地 ‘モネの池’ のイメージ曲『A Pond of Wonder 〜モネの池のテーマ〜』を発表、さらに2025年には茨城県牛久市の ‘牛久シャトー’ のイメージ曲『日いづる葡萄酒のために』を発表し、両市長への表敬訪問の様子はメディアにも報じられた。
東京における活動としては、目黒区自由が丘において自身の楽曲と街のブランドイメージの親和性が認められ ‘自由が丘南口音楽担当アンバサダー’ に就任。2025年のクリスマス期間には東急電鉄自由が丘駅南口にて5拍子のクリスマスナンバー『愛しき賢者の贈り物』が放送されるキャンペーンが実施された。
5拍子を語る際に本人は八の字を書くように手を動かし、片側は3拍で一つの円、もう片側は2拍で一つの円を描くことになることを示し、この角速度の違いこそが5拍子の持つリズム的本質であると説明している。同様の説明は奇数拍子であれば全て成り立つ(7拍子なら4と3、9拍子なら5と4 etc.)としており〈変拍子の本質はリズムの非対称性である〉という独自の定義を打ち立てている。
また『ゲルニカの掟』に代表される多くの曲で、拍子を小節毎に変化させるという、さらに高度なアレンジを行っている。これは『拍子を3拍子、2拍子という最小単位に分解し、メロディーのニュアンスに合わせて自由に再構築する』という独自のテクニックに基づいており、その手法を 〈音楽におけるキュビズム〉と定義している。
これまでに7枚のオリジナルアルバムをリリース。YouTubeに公開している各曲のミュージックビデオもその独創性から高い評価を集めている。
TSUMUZI / Composer, Violinist
TSUMUZI is a Japanese composer, violinist who is known as “Mr. 5 beats” “Mr. Asymmetrical Meters” by his characteristic music style.
While pursuing his career as a musician, he also graduated from a national medical university in Tokyo and obtained a medical license. This distinctive background has brought him attention as an artist who seamlessly blends artistic sensibility with intellectual depth.
He began violin at age three and piano at age four, and by sixteen he was deeply immersed in songwriting and composition. After moving to Tokyo for university, he began developing his own musical style—one that goes beyond the boundaries of classical music. In his mid‑twenties, his original number “Devilish Waltz of A Soul” inspired him to pursue the path of becoming a pioneer in the still‑uncharted world of Asymmetrical Meters.
Although he passed the national medical licensing exam after graduation, he chose to devote himself fully to music.
In 2013, he made his national debut with his first album “Devilish Waltz of A Soul – The Tango of February 26th ”.
His rare musical focus on 5 beats and asymmetrical meters attracted attention both in Japan and abroad. The music video for “Libertango My Own” has regularly topped jazz charts in Europe, Asia, and South America, leading to his international expansion.
His first overseas performance—a concert in Spain—was well-received for the sound, which focused on the affinity between his own exploration of 5 beats and flamenco and established his reputation as a leading figure in the field.
In April 2025, he was invited by the Iranian Ministry of Cultural Heritage to visit Iran, traveling through four cities—Isfahan, Varzaneh, Shiraz, and Tehran—where he filmed three video works. In Tehran, he also performed a collaborative concert with local musicians at the Embassy of Japan.
In Japan, he released “A Pond of Wonder” in 2021 as the image number for the popular tourist site “Monet’s Pond” in Seki City, Gifu. In 2025, he released “For the Wine of Sunrise” as the image number for “Ushiku Chateau” in Ushiku City, Ibaraki. His courtesy visits to the mayors of both cities were covered by the media.
In Tokyo, he was appointed as “Music Ambassador for Jiyugaoka South Exit”, recognizing the affinity between his music and the district’s brand image. During the 2025 Christmas season, his 5 beats Christmas number “The Lovely Gift of the Magi” was played at the south exit of Jiyugaoka Station as part of a special campaign.
When talking about 5 beats, he explains its rhythmic essence by moving his hands in a figure‑eight motion—one loop representing a three‑beat circle and the other a two‑beat circle—illustrating that the difference in angular velocity is the core of the 5 beats. He notes that the same principle applies to all odd meters (4+3 for 7 beats, 5+4 for 9 beats, etc.), establishing his own definition that “the essence of asymmetrical meters lies in rhythmic asymmetry.”
Many of his works, including the representative number “Guernica Dogma”, employ even more advanced techniques in which beats changes every measure. This approach is based on his unique method of deconstructing beats into the smallest units of three‑beat and two‑beat cells and freely reconstructing them according to the nuances of the melody, a technique he defines as “Cubism in music.”
He has released seven original albums to date, and the music videos for his works on YouTube continue to receive high praise for their originality.
